Volunteers in the United States, Canada and Mexico aid in conserving monarchs and advance understanding of butterfly ecology and migration in general. Meet at the Nature’s Accessible Backyard Trail kiosk, at the south end of our parking lot. Go to www.mlmp.org to learn about the project.

A Place Where Conservation Began

Join us for an historical tour of Five Rivers. On this walk back in time, Center naturalists will lead an exploration of the many landforms and structures associated with the former Game Farm’s duck and goose propagation program. In the 1930s, the mallard was quite uncommon in the Eastern Flyway. Now, due mostly to the Game Farm program (1933-1970), it is our most common duck species.

Walking distance is about one mile. Please bring drinking water and appropriate footwear.

On Thursday, October 6th, shorefronts along the Hudson River and the piers of New York Harbor will be busy with activity as thousands of students armed with seine nets, minnow pots, and water testing gear collect data on many of the Hudson’s 200-plus species of fish and myriad invertebrates, track the river’s tides and currents, and examine water chemistry and quality.

The annual “Day in the Life of the Hudson River Estuary” gives school classes the opportunity to collect scientific data using hands-on field techniques and provides a snapshot of the river’s ecology on a single day.
