Notice is hereby given that the Stony Brook University Hospital (EPA Identification Number NYR000161471) has applied to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) under the provisions of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and 6NYCRR Part 373-3 for closure of a hazardous waste storage unit at the Hospital Main Operating Room, Soiled Utility Room (Hospital, Level 4, Room 625). NYS DEC has tentatively determined that the closure plan is consistent with the regulatory requirements for the closure of a hazardous waste container storage area and, as such, can be approved. The intention of this public notice is to solicit comment from the public on the closure plan. The applicant's closure plan details the steps that will be taken to close the hazardous waste management unit.

A copy of the closure plan is available for public review at NYS DEC - Region 1 Office. Copies of the closure plan may be obtained by contacting Anit Patel, NYS DEC - Region 1 Office, Division of Materials Management, 50 Circle Road, SUNY at Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY 11790-3409, Phone: (631) 444-0397.

Comments on the closure plan may be sent to the contact listed above no later than March 27, 2020.

The public comment period has been postponed indefinitely and will be rescheduled at a later date.

DEC had originally scheduled the public comment period to gather comment about a proposal for no further action related to the K-Dangman Park MGP Site (Neptune Ave., Brooklyn), within New York's Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Program.

DEC also had scheduled a public meeting about the proposal for March 16. This meeting also has been postponed indefinitely and will be rescheduled at a later date.

The morning will be devoted to several presentations on environmental education and volunteers, urban soils, and a discussion of the Play Fair initiative and its impact on the City’s tree budget.

The afternoon will provide a choice of tours of urban forestry sites on Staten Island.
