DEC invites the public to comment about draft plans to investigate and clean up contamination related to the Red Hook 4 Properties, site ID #C224214 (Brooklyn), within New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program. Public comments about the draft plans will be accepted through August 17, 2019.

Many people are inspired by Five Rivers, including local artists. During July and August, members of the Bethlehem Art Association will exhibit some of their works related to the site in the visitor center.The exhibit is open during visitor center hours, Monday through Saturday, 9am to 4:30pm; closed Sundays and state holidays.

Meet the artists at a reception from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, July 25.

Connect with nature during a forest bathing walk, led by Jennifer Fendya, certified forest therapist. $10/class; proceeds support youth education programs. For adults only.

Family Fun: A IS FOR APPLE!
 
Join us for a fun-filled walk for the whole family as we create our own Five Rivers alphabet booklet. We’ll photograph animals, plants and people in action at Five Rivers, until we have a photo for each letter of the alphabet. I wonder what we’ll find for Q and Z!

NOTE: Organized groups (scouts, schools, hiking clubs, etc.) are welcome, but are asked to call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register.

DEC's I FISH NY program will conduct a Free Fishing Clinic on: 

  • August 17th, 2019 at Pier 5 in the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Free Fishing Clinics are family and first time angler friendly! Participants can fish for free and loaner fishing rods and bait will be available for those who want to participate. No freshwater fishing license or enrollment in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry is required. In addition to fishing, participants can learn about fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics and aquatic ecology.

Watchable Wildlife: National Honey Bee Day Honey bees have both fascinating and important lives.

Come celebrate National Honey Bee Day with Five Rivers staff! We will talk about the importance of honey bees, threats to their survival, and ways you can help. Take a walk to see our different hives where we will observe honey bee behavior and taste their delicious honey!
