The Hudson River Estuary Management Advisory Committee (HREMAC) was established in 1987 under Section 11-0306 of the Environmental Conservation Law, known as the Hudson River Estuary Management Act. The committee's volunteer members are appointed by the DEC Commissioner and represent a variety of interests including commercial fishing, recreational uses, research, education, conservation, local government, marine trades and industry. The committee meets three times per year and provides a forum where the views and opinions of committee members can be shared with state resource managers. Contact hrep@dec.ny.gov for a meeting agenda one week prior to the meeting.

Take part in ongoing research on monarch butterflies. For more than 15 years, data collected at Five Rivers has been contributed to this continent-wide citizen science project conducted through the University of Minnesota. The goal of the MLMP is to better understand how and why monarch populations vary, with a focus on their distribution and abundance during the breeding season in North America. Volunteers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico aid in conserving monarchs and advance understanding of butterfly ecology and migration in general. Wear long pants and bring a sun hat and water. We will meet at the visitor center. Go to www.mlmp.org to learn about the project.

NOTE: Organized groups (scouts, schools, hiking clubs, etc.) are welcome, but are asked to call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register.

This calendar provides a listing of all DEC-sponsored events that are open to the public. You can click on any event in the calendar to view additional details about the event. Note that the events at environmental education centers will only display in the region in which they are located, even though they serve residents from adjacent areas. We welcome people with disabilities to all of our programs. Please call the contact number ahead of time to let us know your specific needs and we will be happy to learn how we can best serve you.

We would appreciate receiving feedback from our users. Please let us know if you encounter any difficulties viewing or using this calendar by sending an email to the DEC webmaster.
