NYS BLUEBIRD SOCIETY WALK AND PROGRAM

The New York State Bluebird Society will sponsor a free public bluebird workshop. There will be an optional bird walk (weather permitting) at 9:00 AM followed by two presentations. The first presentation will be by John Ruska—past president and lifetime director of the Bluebird Society—will present on the life history of the Eastern Bluebird. This talk will appeal to both novice and experienced birders. Next, Montana Stone—past Albany County Bluebird Ambassador—will talk about her research on the Javan rhinoceros—the most threatened of the five rhino species, with only 58–68 individuals that live exclusively in Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia.

NOTE: Organized groups (scouts, schools, hiking clubs, etc.) are welcome, but are asked to call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register.

Enjoy a day of fishing with the whole family! Event activities include fishing
instruction, fish cleaning services, environmental exhibits, and the "Spring Fling" children's casting contest. Loaner rods and free bait will be available to participants throughout the day. Prior to the event, Belmont Lake will be stocked with close to 4,000 trout by DEC and State Parks. The freshwater fishing license requirement for anglers age 16 and older has been suspended for this event.

Cost: $8 parking fee; free with Empire Pass

Outdoor Fun:  VERNAL POOL EXPLORATION

After a long winter under the snow and mud, the salamanders, frogs, and insects are ready to emerge. Come to Five Rivers and wander along Vlomankill Trail to learn about life in a vernal pool, and the importance of these seasonal habitats. We’ll also discuss native species like mole salamanders, northern spring peepers, wood frogs, and more. Make sure to wear your rain boots.
