Join us as we discover the coming of winter, both in the pages of books and outdoors. A naturalist will read a story, and then we’ll go walk outdoors to explore some of the themes in the book. We’ll end by completing a craft in the visitor center. All are welcome, but the program is most appropriate for children ages 4-7. Adults must accompany children.

NOTE: Organized groups (scouts, schools, hiking clubs, etc.) are welcome, but are asked to call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register.

A two-mile round-trip will take us along field edges and into the woods. We may see wintering birds flying over the fields or grazing deer. We’ll experience both expansive views of open sky and the intimacy of dense forest. As a bonus, we will explore the beginning stages of our new trail connecting to other parts of the property. The terrain is flat but sometimes uneven. Wear appropriate footwear.

NOTE: Organized groups (scouts, schools, hiking clubs, etc.) are welcome, but are asked to call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register.

This calendar provides a listing of all DEC-sponsored events that are open to the public. You can click on any event in the calendar to view additional details about the event. Note that the events at environmental education centers will only display in the region in which they are located, even though they serve residents from adjacent areas. We welcome people with disabilities to all of our programs. Please call the contact number ahead of time to let us know your specific needs and we will be happy to learn how we can best serve you.
