In his 2018 State of the State, Governor Cuomo directed New York’s environmental, energy, and transportation agencies to advance a cleaner, safer, and more reliable low-carbon transportation future. In response, these agencies (NYSDEC, NYSERDA, and NYSDOT) are hosting regional stakeholder discussions to encourage conversations around clean transportation. As your organization, community, or industry sector has considerable interest in transportation, energy and environmental strategies, we are seeking your input.

We invite you to engage in discussion on:

  • the economic and social considerations for deploying clean transportation strategies;
  • how you or your organization could support and benefit from opportunities to enhance environmental and public health benefits through a modernized transportation system;
  • how innovative, low-carbon transportation may enhance your quality of life or otherwise affect the competitiveness of your sector, business or community; and
  • what policies and programs may help advance a clean transportation future.

Join us for this summer’s Living Environment Institute (LEI), as we explore Marvelous Migrations on land, water and air. Migration is a relevant topic for educators everywhere. It is an exciting topic for students and teachers alike. For three days, LEI participants will explore a wide variety of migrants, including where they live and where they go. We’ll even become field scientists as we spend a day participating in ongoing projects at Norrie Point Environmental Center on the Hudson River.

LEI participants will bring home an understanding of the marvels of migration. Participants will gain valuable ideas, standards-based curriculum and activities, and connect with a network of peers. We’ll do this with the guidance of experts like nationally recognized Chris Bowser, recipient of US EPA’s Environmental Quality Award for his creation of the American Eel Project, as they share expert techniques for engaging students across disciplines and grade levels.

Visit Annual Teachers Institutes and Academies page on the DEC website for more information.
