Citizen Science: EARLY BIRDERS 

Thursdays May 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at 7:30 AM

Come celebrate the dawn chorus as we monitor the progression of spring bird migration. These outdoor surveys begin at 7:30 AM. Meet at the bird-viewing window in the visitor center. After a brief introduction, we’ll head out on the trails. Beginners are always welcome. Binoculars are helpful but not necessary. In case of inclement weather, these programs will be canceled. For more information, call 518-475-0291.

NOTE: Organized groups (scouts, schools, hiking clubs, etc.) are welcome, but are asked to call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register.

Proposed Rulemaking to Amend Water Quality Standards Regulations and the Classification of Upper and Lower New York Bay

The purpose of the proposed rulemaking is to amend Parts 700, 703, and 890 of Title 6 of the Official Compilation of Codes, Rules, and Regulations of the State of New York (6 NYCRR) to adopt new standards for enterococci and E. coli to meet the requirements of federal law and to upgrade the classifications of certain surface waters in the New York Harbor.

The workshop includes an overview of the application and the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) process followed by informational breakout sessions on specific funding available, including DEC's Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program and the DEC/EFC Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grant.

Family Fun: OUTDOORS AFTER SCHOOL

 Join us after school to get some fresh air, stretch your legs, and have fun outdoors. We’ll meet in front of the visitor center to head out on an adventure. Each week will have a different theme and will include time to explore. Come for as many sessions as you’d like, and dress for outdoor activity. For children in grades K-5 and their caregivers.

Public Meeting Location: Holiday Inn, 1777 Burrstone Road, New Hartford, NY 13413

DEC invites the public to the meeting to learn about a proposed remedy to address contamination related to the SMC Brownfield Site (New Hartford, Oneida Co.), within New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program. Public comments also are welcome at the meeting, and during a public comment period that runs through May 14, 2018.
