Naturalists as Reading Partners

Join us on Saturday, October 7 at 10 am as we discover fall, both in the pages of a book and outdoors. We’ll read A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Aston, then go outdoors on a discovery walk to explore some of the themes in the book: plants and trees and their seeds. We’ll end by completing a craft in the visitor center. All are welcome, but the program is most appropriate for children ages 3-7. Adults must accompany children.

A Place Where Conservation Began

Join us for an historical tour of Five Rivers. On this walk back in time, Center naturalists will lead an exploration of the many landforms and structures associated with the former Game Farm’s duck and goose propagation program. In the 1930s, the mallard was quite uncommon in the Eastern Flyway. Now, due mostly to the Game Farm program (1933-1970), it is our most common duck species.

Walking distance is about one mile. Please bring drinking water and appropriate footwear.

Date/Time: Saturday, October 7, 2:00 PM
