Stop by the Empire State Plaza Farmers Market in Albany on Wednesday, July 12 between 11am and 2pm for invasive species exhibits and information presented by local conservation agencies and not for profit organizations. Experts will be on site to answer your questions about prohibited and regulated species, citizen science programs, and more. This event is a part of New York's 4th annual Invasive Species Awareness Week.

NYS DEC, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest may have a significant adverse impact on the environment and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared and accepted.

There will also be two staff availability sessions for the public to ask questions of NYS DEC staff related to the draft plan:

$670,000 in new competitive grant funding is available to help communities in the Hudson River Estuary improve recreational access and design projects to increase resiliency to flooding, protect water quality, and enhance natural resources. The grants support the goals of DEC's 2015-2020 Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda.

DEC invites the public to attend either of the following availability sessions it will hold with the New York State Department of Health on July 12, 2017 to discuss cleanup to begin this July of properties in neighborhoods adjacent to the Former Geneva Foundry Site (Geneva, Ontario County):

  • 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM  --and--
  • 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

DEC and the Town of Brookhaven are co-sponsoring this freshwater fishing clinic. All are welcome to this family clinic. Basic instruction focuses on fish identification, techniques, regulations and stewardship practices. Fishing will follow the instruction and education portion.

Location: Town of Brookhaven Beach, Lake Ronkonkoma (south end of the lake)

Directions:

From the East: I-495 (LIE) exit 60. Continue on service road. Make a right onto Pond Road to Town beach, 0.5 miles.

From the West: I-495 (LIE) exit 59. Continue service road. Make a left onto Pond Road to Town beach, 0.5 miles.
