DEC invites public comment about a draft plan to investigate contamination related to the Mr. Cleaners-Shrub Oak Shopping Center Site (Shrub Oak, Westchester Co.), within New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program. DEC is accepting public comments about the proposal through May 17, 2014.

The Seventh Annual Adirondack Trails Conference will be Saturday, May 17, starting at 10 a.m. at The Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake for snowmobilers interested in Adirondack snowmobile trail issues.

RSVPs are required. Email to jrolf@nysnowmobiler.com as soon as possible.

Most Adirondack area NYS Department of Environmental Conservation officials will be there to meet and work directly with club representatives on issues surrounding snowmobile trails within “the blue line.” Work plans, signage, understanding both sides of the regulations, and other pertinent issues will be discussed.

Learn all about trees as we take a walk in search of the “grandmother trees” at Five Rivers, using simple tools to measure tree height and width. Learn a little about species identification and what trees do for wildlife and for people. Appropriate for those 8 years old or older. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Join us for a two-mile hike along Five Rivers’ Wild Turkey Trail. The trail extends to the northernmost edge of Five Rivers, skirting a 60-acre field and meandering throughout hardwood forests. We’ll enjoy spring blooms, glimpse wildlife, and watch for signs of wild turkey. Wear comfortable, sturdy footwear.
