DEC will be holding an informational meeting at the Boonville Town Hall, 13149 New York Route 12, Boonville, NY 13309. The meeting will be held to discuss forest management activities due to forest insect and disease infestation on Sand Flats State Forest.

Explanations will be provided by NYS DEC staff regarding the fungal disease and health condition of Sand Flats State Forest as well as different management actions proposed to address the problem. Most of the management actions will be to clearcut the affected stands to salvage the 600 acres of wood fiber from the dying trees. Explanations will be given regarding plans to prepare the site for reforestation through planting or naturally regenerating the stands.

The public will be allowed in the Town Hall building at 6:00 p.m. A formal presentation by NYS DEC staff will begin at 7:00 p.m. explaining the problem and plans to address it. NYS DEC staff will be available to answer questions following the presentation.

The Sand Flats State Forest is located in the Town of Lyonsdale. Lewis County, New York.
