The public will have a special opportunity to visit restricted portions of three Wildlife Management Areas in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties starting Saturday, Aug. 17 and continuing through Friday, Aug. 30. Perch River WMA in Jefferson County and Upper and Lower Lakes and Wilson Hill WMAs in St. Lawrence County, including their wetland restricted areas, will be open to visitors.

This workshop helps teachers incorporate study of the Great Lakes into their classroom through standards-based, hands-on lesson plans and in-depth instruction in local Great Lakes issues. Participants will receive Project WET and Project WILD Aquatic curriculum and activity guides. For educators of students in grades 6-12. Registration required; call 716-683-5959 to sign up.

Good camouflage is hard to find. And many wildlife species benefit by blending in perfectly with their surroundings. Become a nature detective and join us for a family-oriented exploration of wildlife that can hide in plain sight. Parent(s) and child(ren) must accompany each other. Join us for a high-summer hike on the North Loop Trail, one of Five Rivers’ longest trails. We’ll take the “road less traveled” on a search for giant oak trees, pileated woodpeckers and other deep forest specialties.
