Welcome to the New York Wildfire & Incident Academy’s first spring prescribed fire academy. 

This academy is designed to teach individuals and teams how to properly conduct prescribed burns safely and effectively.

All academy classes are held at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York.

  • RX-310 - Introduction to Fire Effects - April 12 - April 15, 2013
  • RX-341 - Prescribed Fire Plan Preparation - April 8 - April 12, 2013
  • RX-410 - Smoke Management - April 8 - April 11, 2013
  • S-234 - Ignition Operations - Session A - April 9 - April 11, 2013
  • S-234 - Ignition Operations - Session B - April 12 - April 14, 2013
  • S-130/190 - Basic Firefighting and Wildfire Behavior - April 8 - April 12, 2013
  • S-130/190 - Basic Firefighting and Wildfire Behavior (Field Day Only) - April 12, 2013

All registrations for both the Spring Prescribed Fire Academy as well as the March 2013 course offering must be sent in by mail/e‐mail/fax. Completed applications can be e‐mailed to nywima@pb.state.ny.us or faxed to the Academy's office at (631) 769-1772.

Note that the events at environmental education centers will only display in the region in which they are located, even though they serve residents from adjacent areas.
