This Boating Safety Course offered at the NYS DEC, 1115 Rt 86, Ray Brook is sponsored by the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation's Bureau of Marine Services.

This 2 day course is designed as a comprehensive boating course, teaching the fundamentals of safe boating operation. The New York State boating safety certificate may be obtained by completing this course. The course will run during spring break on Tuesday April 2nd from 9:30AM - 2:30PM and Wednesday April 3rd from 9:30AM - 12:30PM. Both class sessions must be attended in order to obtain your safety certificate.

There is no cost for this class but if you are 18 or older you will be required to pay NYS Parks a $10.00 fee for your permanent boating safety certificate.

You must hold a boating safety certificate if:

You operate a personal watercraft and are at least 14 years of age.
You wish to operate a motorboat (other than a personal watercraft) and you are at least 10 years old and less than 18 years old.
You must preregister for this course by calling (518) 474-0445, seating is limited to 35 students.

The sun is a powerful source of energy. It provides heat and light, cooks food, warms water, moves motors and much more. Come see for yourself how technology is using this renewable resource even to help combat climate change. Each family will get to build their own miniature solar car. Parent(s) and child(ren) must accompany each other. The program is free of charge, but space is limited. Please call 518-475-0291 to register by Friday, March 29.

NYS DEC will hold two public meetings on the Draft Long Island Pesticide Pollution Prevention Strategy to provide a summary of the Draft Strategy and to receive written and oral comments on it. Immediately prior to each public meeting, NYS DEC will hold a one-hour availability session. During those sessions, there will be an opportunity for interested public to review information on the Draft Strategy and discuss it with available NYS DEC staff. The formal presentation on the Draft Strategy will be provided during the public meeting; there will not be a presentation during the availability session.
