Come celebrate the 42nd birthday of Woodsy Owl's Give a Hoot and Lend a Hand campaigns. We will start indoors with interactive activities that will help inspire young children to be good stewards of the environment, then we will search along the center's trails for seasonal signs of squirrels, deer, woodpeckers and…yes…owls. Ways to "Lend a Hand, Care for the Land" right at home will be discussed. Parent(s) and child(ren) must accompany each other. This program is free of charge, but space is limited. Please call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register by Wednesday, September 5. For directions please visit the Five Rivers web page.

Small-scale "worm farming" is a great way to boost your plant production. Join center naturalists for a thorough indoor demonstration of our worm composting bin, and learn how you can turn household food waste, yard clippings and more into nutrient-rich compost. Successful tips to help you build and maintain a healthy and productive compost bin will be provided. A visit to the Wildlife Garden to discover the benefits of worm composting will spark your interest. Participants will be able to make a starter "worm farm," worms included, to take home! Sample compost and "worm tea" will also be provided. All materials will be free of charge. One worm farm per family please. Limited to 10 families. Please call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register by Wednesday, September 5. For directions please visit the Five Rivers web page.

This calendar provides a listing of all DEC-sponsored events that are open to the public. You can click on any event in the calendar to view additional details about the event. Note that the events at environmental education centers will only display in the region in which they are located, even though they serve residents from adjacent areas. We welcome people with disabilities to all of our programs. Please call the contact number ahead of time to let us know your specific needs and we will be happy to learn how we can best serve you.

We would appreciate receiving feedback from our users. Please let us know if you encounter any difficulties viewing or using this calendar by sending an email to the DEC webmaster.
