Grass Pickerel

Esox americanus vermiculatus

Grass Pickerel is a subspecies of redfin pickerel occurring in lowland streams, bays and ponds with thick vegetation. There are capture records in eight Great Lakes watersheds and in the Allegheny. It no longer occurs in the Oswego and Genesee watersheds. Its abundance in other areas, such as the Allegheny watershed, appears to have increased.
