Stonecat

Stonecat

Noturus flavus

Stonecat lives in the lower reaches of streams with rocks and moderate current. It is native to 13 of 18 watersheds outside the south and eastern watersheds of the Chemung, Susquehanna, Delaware, Newark Bay and Long Island. There are no recent records from Lower Hudson since 1950s. Field identifications have sometimes been cursory, and its possible replacement or displacement by Margined Madtom has gone unnoticed.
