Northern Hog Sucker inhabits streams and lakes. It depends on gravel for spawning and generally congregates in areas with current. It occurs in all watersheds except Saint Lawrence, Oswegatchie, Raquette, Champlain, Newark Bay and Long Island; it is non-native in the Black watershed.
