Bluntnose Minnow is a habitat generalist. It ranges from lowland streams with submerged aquatic vegetation to all lakes except those at the highest elevations. It is native to 17 watersheds and to Westchester County of the Long Island watershed. It is likely introduced into the Adirondack lakes.
