Sand Shiner

Notropis stramineus

Sand Shiner lives in streams and large lakes and is often near sandy bottoms. It is native to eight western and northern watersheds, and it has expanded its range to include four additional watersheds in the south and southeast. Range expansion has also occurred at the northern edge of the Adirondacks into waters at intermediate elevation.
