Northern Redbelly Dace

Northern Redbelly Dace

Chrosomus eos

Northern Redbelly Dace inhabits small streams and favors cooler waters that are often dark-stained. It is found in Adirondack watersheds plus small parts of other watersheds in the state except the Chemung, Newark Bay and Long Island. Range expansion in the north appears to be somewhat more extensive than range loss in the west and south. Where its range overlaps with the closely related Finescale Dace, they occasionally produce hybrids.
