Otter Sightings in the Hudson River Watershed
This map shows locations where stewards have reported seeing otter or otter sign to the Hudson River Otter Stewardship Program since its beginning in 2001. Although we are happy to hear of sightings anywhere in the Hudson River watershed, we are most concerned with sightings in the lower Hudson River drainage (south of the Troy dam). In this area there is limited trapping and very limited knowledge of otter populations.
Check this page again soon... as more sightings are reported, this map will be updated.
The League of Naturalists, a group of interested citizens in the Harriman State Park area, have been very helpful in the Hudson River Otter Stewardship Program. These otter sightings have been recorded for over 10 years, demonstrating the presence of otters in this area.
