Iowa Darter

Etheostoma exile

Iowa darter lives in lakes, low gradient streams and larger rivers with submerged aquatic vegetation and gravel. It is native to the northern and western half the state and most records are from Lake Ontario bays and inland lakes. Iowa darter has declined to levels below detection in the Genesee and Allegheny watersheds and has been classified as a Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
