Western Pirate Perch

Aphredoderus sayanus sayanus

Western pirate perch resides in low-gradient streams with clay or sand and some heavy debris. It is native to western and central New York, or 1/9th of the state. It has declined to levels below detection in tributaries of Lake Erie and the Niagara River but has increased in tributaries of Lake Ontario. It is classified as Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
