Bobcat Observation

The Bureau of Wildlife wants to learn more about the occurrence and distribution of bobcats in New York. In areas of the state open to hunting and trapping of bobcats, information on bobcat populations is obtained through the mandatory pelt sealing of harvested bobcats. In comparison, information on bobcat populations is sparse in areas where hunting and trapping of bobcat is not permitted including most of central and western New York. In these areas, people who spend a considerable amount of time outdoors can be an essential resource for information on bobcats.
