Duties/Responsibilities This Assistant Superintendent Of Construction will directly report to the Regional Operations Supervisor with region wide duties and responsibilities including: Assisting in the management of the Job Order Construction (JOC) program with projects under $300,000. Assisting with the cost estimating/budgeting, scheduling and inspection of building construction maintenance requisitions and service PO's. Overseeing the Maintenance Management System and Property Database Maintenance and perform other tasks vital to safe public use of state facilities.

Inspects medium State building construction projects and/or medium sized portions of large
State building construction projects to assure adherence to specifications, contracts, and
good work standards.
  • Reviews field orders, change orders, and all necessary paperwork.
  • May act as supervisor on routine assignments on larger building construction projects.
  • Visits construction sites of projects under construction every two weeks for simple projects, and every week for complicated projects or those under a fast track.
  • Verifies that construction is being performed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications
  • Performs on-site reviews of construction change orders to verify the legitimacy of the work, the proper cost of the work, and to assist the review of architectural and engineering staff.
  • Communicates with on-site personnel concerning any construction issues.
  • Performs final verification to assure that work is complete and satisfactory.
  • Reviews drawings as needed, and ensures construction projects meet applicable building codes.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 13 or higher and: Transfer eligible under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below:

55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.

Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):

Either 1: an associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, architectural technology, or construction technology AND one year of qualifying experience as described below;*

Or 2: three years of qualifying experience as described below.*

* Experience assisting in the management of construction projects from inception to completion to include cost estimating, construction planning and scheduling, contract document reading and interpretation, and construction inspection to ensure compliance with building codes for construction projects with a construction cost of at least $300,000.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after- hour's emergencies.
