Mobile Sources and Technology Development

Cars, trucks, buses, off-road vehicles and planes are all considered mobile sources of air pollution. Under the federal Clean Air Act of 1990, New York State is required to take a comprehensive approach to reducing air pollution from mobile sources. We provide technical, regulatory, and policy support for vehicle emission control programs. We are also responsible for implementing statewide, comprehensive Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) emissions testing for motor vehicles, as well as development of relational databases and analysis of OBD-based I/M data.
