Bureau of Hazardous Waste Regulation
The Bureau of Hazardous Waste Regulation in the Division of Solid and Hazardous Materials:
- Manages and implements the hazardous waste facility permit program, including developing guidance documents and permits for facilities that store, treat or combust hazardous waste pursuant to Part 373.
- Provides technical assistance in interpreting the hazardous waste regulations (Part 370 series).
- Evaluates requests for exclusions, variances and exemptions from various aspects of the hazardous waste regulatory program.
- Administers the hazardous waste regulatory compliance program, including coordination and oversight of field inspections, compliance assistance to the regulated community, and inspector training and guidance.
- Implements the Hazardous Waste Special Assessment Fees program.
- Reviews and accepts Hazardous Waste Reduction Plans for New York State generators, and track generator progress in meeting their plans.
- Implements the used oil regulatory program under 6 NYCRR Part 360-14 and 374.2, including permitting of used oil facilities and technical assistance.
