Cleanup Programs

Referred to as the State Superfund Program, the Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site Remedial Program is the cleanup program for inactive hazardous waste sites and now includes hazardous substance sites.

The Brownfield Cleanup Program is the newly legislated cleanup program that is modeled after, and now replaces, the DEC's administrative Voluntary Cleanup Program.
The Environmental Restoration Program, a cleanup grant program under the 1996 Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act for municipally-owned sites, was enhanced by the new legislation. This program was formerly referred to as the "Brownfields" Program.
The Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program provides grants to not-for-profit community-based organizations and municipalities for pre-nominating, nominating and assessing Brownfield Opportunity Areas.
The Spill Response Program includes the Petroleum Spill Response Program and the Hazardous Waste Emergency Response Program.
