Employment Inquiries

Most DEC positions are competitive, meaning applicants can gain employment by meeting specific eligibility requirements for taking written examinations. The NYS Department of Civil Service can screen applicants for eligibility for specific exams. Civil Service can also supply applicants with information about specific examinations, including exam dates and application deadlines. Some positions at DEC are non-competitive. These positions can be filled without examination by qualified candidates who meet minimum qualifications.

For those presently employed by New York State and interested in transferring to DEC Region 4, an employment application can be obtained by calling the Administration Unit at Region 4 Headquarters at (518) 357-2072. Please submit a cover letter, resume and employment application to:

Applicants can expect a reply, and if there are no appropriate openings, resumes are kept on file for one year. After a year, applicants can renew their application by phone.

Accounting Unit

This unit handles accounts payable and receivable, seasonal payroll, time and activity coordination and a number of other administrative functions. Questions regarding pending invoices may be directed to (518) 357-2073.
