Serving Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara and Wyoming Counties
Region 9 is located in Western New York and is host to a diverse range of natural resources. Currently, DEC's offices within Region 9 include a main office located in the City of Buffalo, a sub-office in Allegany, and the Dunkirk Lake Erie Fisheries Unit.

The 6 Western New York Counties covered by Region 9 compose over 3 million acres of land.
- The Allegany, Genesee, and Niagara Rivers flow through Region 9.
- Over 75 miles of Lake Erie and 30 miles of Lake Ontario shoreline are located in Region 9.
Region 9 Includes:
- 19 Boat Launch and Fisherman Access sites
- 154 miles of Public Fishing Rights and weekly updated Fishing Hotlines for Lake Erie and Western New York

fishing in the northeast! - Over 97,000 acres of State Reforestation areas
- Over 14,000 acres of Wildlife Management Areas
- Approximately 120 miles of Recreational Trails
- Rushford Environmental Education Camp
- Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center
- 7 major sold waste landfills, including 3 of the 5 largest in NYS
- 393 State Superfund Sites
- Over 100 brownfield sites currently undergoing investigation and/or cleanup under -- NYS environmental remediation programs.
