Questions about permits should be directed to the division managing that specific permit program. The information below will help you locate the correct division.

Uniform Procedures Act Permits

The Division of Environmental Permits manages several categories of permits that are subject to the application review and decision making procedures contained in the Uniform Procedures Act (UPA). These are:

  • Air Pollution Control
  • Coastal Erosion Control
  • Freshwater Wetlands
  • Mined Land Reclamation
  • Protection of Waters, including Dams and Docks
  • Public Water Withdrawal and Long Island Wells
  • Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
  • State Pollutant Discharge and Elimination Systems (SPDES)
  • Tidal Wetlands
  • Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers

For questions about permits falling into any of theses categories, determine which DEC region the site is located in and then contact the appropriate Regional Permit Administrator responsible for that region.
