Duties/Responsibilities Prepare the technical portions of contractual bidding documents for the design and installation of electrical systems. In general, these projects involve the rehabilitation of or additions to existing electrical systems and new construction. You would prepare plans in AutoCAD, specifications, details, estimates and complex electrical designs for various state facilities, and may review consultant design documents to ensure compliance with client standards. Other duties include performing studies for electrical energy conservation and anticipated electrical projects, providing construction support to include checking shop drawings and equipment lists against drawings and specifications prepared by others, and answering questions from bidders, contractors and field staff. At project completion, coordinate with the project inspector and contractor in the preparation of AsBuilt drawings in AutoCAD.

Engineer Trainee:
A bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Electrical Engineering Technology; Electrical Power Engineering; Electronics Engineering; Engineering Science with Specialty in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology.

Assistant Engineer (Electrical):
Proof of successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.


Reassignment
- Currently in the title and an employee of DEC

or

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.

or

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 18 or higher and either:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below;

or

Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1:

Engineer Trainee:

Permanent competitive service as an Principal Drafting Technician General, Principal Drafting Technician Structural, Principal Engineering Technician, Principal Engineering Technician Soils.

Assistant Engineer (Electrical):

Permanent competitive service as an Assistant Engineer (All Parenthetics)


55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program. Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):

Engineer Trainee:
A bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Electrical Engineering Technology; Electrical Power Engineering; Electronics Engineering; Engineering Science with Specialty in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology.

Individuals appointed as an Engineer Trainee are required to complete a minimum of one year of successful performance as an Engineer Trainee and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. If you obtain your FE by the end of the first year, you will be advanced to the appropriate appoint-level-changed (PR-50) Grade 20 Assistant Engineer title. If you do not obtain your FE by the end of the second year of the traineeship, you will be terminated from your position.


Assistant Engineer (Electrical):

Additional Comments

Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must be available for emergency response.
