Duties/Responsibilities Provide forestry assistance to private landowners in Herkimer and Oneida counties, including writing stewardship plans, overseeing funding assistance programs for forest management activities on private lands, examining forests stands impacted by disease or pests, leading and/or assisting with workshops on forestry related topics, assisting communities on urban forestry matters and related matters. May also assist other Herkimer forestry staff with activities/projects on state forest, forest preserve and unique area lands.

Must hold a valid NYS drivers license or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation need of the position.

Must be able to negotiate difficult and irregular terrain in an outdoor environment, including areas which are basically trail less.

Must possess computer skills.

You must have a bachelor's degree or higher, including 15 semester credit hours in forestry including silvics or silviculture, forest mensuration, forest inventory, forest soils, dendrology and forest management AND 25 semester credit hours in three or more of the following areas: forest protection, wilderness management, natural resource planning, geographic information systems, forest ecology, forest recreation, forest biology, hydrology, forest engineering, timber harvesting, forest pathology or forest and woods product engineering. Please include a copy of your college transcripts if applying for a provisional appointment.

Duties/Responsibilities Develop forest stand treatment prescriptions, review and oversight of forest product sales and other forest resource management proposals for compliance with applicable policies, regulations and statutes. Assist in the development of policies regarding forest resource management on State Forests. Develop Unit Management Plans for State Forest Units. Supervise Forest Technicians in their routine duties. Create work plans for routine maintenance and special construction projects and coordinate with the Division of Operations on implementation of work plans.

Duties/Responsibilities Position would perform professional forestry work within the Bureau of State Land Management in such areas as the management, development and protection of forest stands. Position would assist in the administration of state forests, utilize Citrix Arc Map GIS to map stand boundaries, perform stand inventory and boundary line maintenance and participate in forest health programs. Work priority would be marking and administering timber sales in natural and conifer plantations cover types, preparing timber sale contracts, and supervising sale-associated contract work.
