Duties/Responsibilities As a Forestry Technician 3, under the supervision of a Forester 1, you would provide technical forestry assistance relating to the administration of State Forest programs in Cattaraugus County and other areas as needed. You would prepare sales of forest products, monitor sales to completion, assist in unit management plan preparation, carry out forest inventory data collection, assist in land acquisition projects, lay out reforestation projects, maintain boundary lines, carry out forest health monitoring projects and prepare maps. Work can involve supervising and providing technical direction and instruction to lower-level Forestry Technicians and seasonal employees. There can be more complex technical assignments to support forest management programs in in a regional office; develop work assignments; evaluate performance; provide on-the-job instruction on proper work methods and techniques; monitor program status and goals; and direct work activities toward obtaining those goals.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
