Duties/Responsibilities Direct supervision of permanent and seasonal staff. Be a field supervisor, overseeing construction and maintenance activities to completion. Schedules work projects and makes individual work assignments to crew members based on priorities set by others and the abilities of individual crew members. Orally instructs staff in the activities and tasks to be performed and answers their questions concerning work procedures. Personally observes work in progress and that which is completed to insure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules. Operate and maintain heavy equipment including but not limited to: lowboy tractor-trailer, dump trucks with heavy equipment trailers, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, skidders, chain saws, flood pumps and snowplows.
Maintain DEC buildings and grounds as required. Keeps written records of work performed and materials and labor used as well as purchasing, fuel usage, mileage reporting, etc. Basic use of computerized equipment for communication and recordkeeping including the Operations Maintenance Management System (MMS), and as a resource for finding written policies and information is necessary.

+ Minimum Qualifications for Non-Competitive Appointments:

One year of practical experience in performing general construction or maintenance tasks. When required to operate a self propelled motorized vehicle, incumbents must posses a valid New York State Driverˇs License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated.

In accordance with union contract, this position is anticipated to be filled by an eligible DEC - CSEA Operational Services Unit 03 employee who meets the minimum qualifications.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and work in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response and available to respond to after- hour's emergencies. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds. Must have a valid Class A CDL for Tractor Trailer Lowboy Operation.
