Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Manages Port vehicle repair facility, personnel, and equipment. Recommends changes to shop operating procedures and/or equipment to improve work performance. Reconciles monthly statements for shop purchases and vendor repairs.
  2. Oversees the Vehicle Dispatch function that is responsible for maximizing the use of the vehicle pool in support of Central Office staff.
  3. Assign repair jobs to staff based upon employee skill level, maintenance and repair schedules, and work priorities. Provides assistance and guidance to staff through verbal and written instruction, and by demonstration of proper repair methods (if required).
  4. Coordinate with DEC managers, as needed, to schedule repairs, needed maintenance, and other shop activities to insure effective utilization of staff and equipment to complete work according to schedule.
  5. Communicates with supervisor and other Bureau staff to inform them of shop status, issues, and various concerns as deemed appropriate.
  6. As required, works with contract vendors (ARI, etc.) to insure that all repairs are completed to NYS DEC standards and satisfaction. Provides repair approvals for work over threshold amounts.
  7. Reconciles paperwork once repairs are complete and ensures that repair information is properly entered into the MMS repair order module.
  8. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  9. Get involved with customer complaints, as needed, in an effort to resolve them.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 12 or higher and:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as a Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1, Construction Equipment Mechanic or Motor Equipment Mechanic.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must have a DMV issued Inspection License for both light duty and heavy duty vehicles.
