Duties/Responsibilities
  • Supervise all Motor Equipment Mechanics and Maintenance Assistant Mechanics positions and the maintenance of vehicles and motorized equipment in the four Regional automotive repair facilities.
  • Gives instructions and assistance, observes and inspects work performed to insure that instructions have been followed, that the quality of the work is satisfactory, resolves personnel, schedule and organizational problems.
  • Communicates with regional COS administrative staff assigned to each working circle and Transportation Services staff to insure all maintenance facilities are operating consistently, proper TSB procedures are followed, proper operating and safety procedures are in place.
  • Possess a valid NYS vehicle inspection license, insures all licenses are valid and responsible for the NYSDMV inspection machines.
  • Records and Monitors repair orders on the MMS data system.
  • Responds to emergency repair and towing of disabled vehicles, after hours work required.
  • Monitors and updates SDS books in the shops.
  • Responsible for bulk storage of oils, waste oil and recycling program.
  • Inventory Control - Coordination and inventory of all vehicles and motorized equipment items in Region 6.
  • Fleet Coordination - Coordination of pool vehicles.
  • Management of all Regional EZ Passes, license plates, and vehicle registrations.
  • Manage all fleet gas cards and supervisor equipment cards.
  • Receives all new vehicles and equipment.
  • Place ID #'s and tags on all new equipment.
  • A critical team member involved with the strategic planning regarding new vehicle replacement.
  • Trains mechanics, coordinates outside training and mentors newly hired mechanics.
  • Budget Management - Responsible for the annual budget; Maintains accounts with vendors in a five (5) county region; Process (code/review) invoices; Process VISA purchases; Responsible for procurement of equipment by purchase requisition, including quotes and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinates the annual OGS Auction
  • Monitors the OGS surplus lists from other state and local government agencies to locate vehicles and equipment to support regional needs.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 12 or higher and:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as a Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1, Construction Equipment Mechanic or Motor Equipment Mechanic.
Additional Comments

Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after- hours emergencies. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Must obtain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of appointment. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
