Duties/Responsibilities Provide sole administrative support for the Office of Media Relations and Assistant Commissioner of Public Affairs. The Office of Media Relations comprises six staff with a broad range of responsibilities for developing proactive and reactive media responses for all the agency's divisions, addressing nearly 3,000 unique media inquiries a year and regularly issue more than 325 press releases annually. The Secretary 1 supports and records all outreach with the Office of Media Relations and is responsible for maintaining the media outreach calendar for Central Office and the agency's nine regions, distributing press releases externally and internally, distributing daily clips, maintaining past media responses, facilitating and tracking media inquiries by phone and email, and scheduling meetings and conference calls to insure the agency is maintaining consistent communications about programs and announcements with the public and within the agency. The Secretary 1 will maintain efficient work flow; update and maintain office policies and procedures; design office filing systems; resolve day-to-day operational problems; handle incoming and outgoing correspondence; manage phone calls and visitors; arrange travel; coordinate and arrange meetings; enter FMIS records; input news releases on agency Reddot/website program; sort mail; research, organize, expedite and follow up on projects; and coordinate information flow by acting as liaison among key executives, staff, other employees and the public. Candidates should be detail oriented with strong editorial and proofreading skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), interest in news and media topics, and able to manage multiple tasks.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 9 or higher and:

Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as a Secretary 1, Secretary 2, Accountant Aide including Trainee 1 & 2, Business Document Specialist 1 & 2, Program Aide, Keyboard Specialist 3, Legal Assistant Trainee 1 & 2, Library Clerk 2 & 3, Office Assistant 2, Office Assistant 2 (Calculations), Office Assistant 2 (Customer Service), Office Assistant 2 (Keyboarding), Office Assistant 2 (Stores/Mail), Office Assistant 3, Office Assistant 3 (Calculations), Senior Offset Printing Machine Operator, Stores & Mail Operations Supervisor.

If you have not already demonstrated proficiency in keyboarding you will have to demonstrate that you meet the minimum proficiency in keyboarding.
