New York State Environmental Board

The New York State Environmental Board was established to assist in carrying out the state policy to conserve, improve and protect its natural resources and environment and to prevent, abate and control water, land and air pollution. The board reviews and approves changes to certain Department regulations.

The Environmental Board is composed of the heads of 10 state agencies and 6 citizen members who have an interest in the state's environmental policy. The citizen members, who are appointed by the Governor, represent conservationists, industry, and agriculture, or have expertise in public health, natural sciences, urban studies or related fields. The agencies represented on the board are:

Department of Environmental Conservation (Chair)

Department of Agriculture and Markets
Department of Transportation
Department of State
Department of Economic Development
Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
Public Service Commission
Department of Labor
Energy, Research and Development Authority

Board meetings are advertised in the Schenectady Gazette and on this website. The public is welcome to attend the meetings, which are also available via webcast.
