The position(s) that are listed as open for application from the general public are for job vacancies where no viable eligible list exists or use of an eligible list is not required by law.

Q. How do I get on an eligible list for positions at DEC?
A. To find out about the civil service process and how to get on an eligible list for positions in the Department of Environmental Conservation, review the information on Civil Service Basics and DEC Examination Announcements.

Q. What is the Workers With Disabilities Program (55-b/55-c Program)?
A. Section 55-b and 55-c of Civil Service Law permits the appointment of certain disabled individuals to positions that are filled by open-competitive examination where the examination is waived for the individual. The individual must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications and be able to perform the essential duties of the position. Complete information on the Workers With Disabilities Program is available from the Department of Civil Service.
