Marc Gerstman, Acting Commissioner
Marc Gerstman began serving as Acting Commissioner of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in July 2015 after having served as the Department's Executive Deputy Commissioner since 2011. From 1982 to 1995, he worked at the Department, serving as DEC's Deputy General Counsel & Director of Legal Affairs then as Deputy Commissioner & General Counsel during the last six years of his tenure. Prior to rejoining the Department, Marc managed his own law practice for 16 years, specializing in environmental, natural resource, land use, zone, administrative and municipal law.
Marc earned his juris doctorate from Brooklyn Law School and holds a bachelor's degree from SUNY New Paltz.
